https://rgsa.emnuvens.com.br/rgsa/article/view/5402

Purpose: In Ghana, maize constitutes the primary source of revenue and food for small-scale farmers, and to attain maize self-sufficiency, appropriate production techniques must be employed, coupled with the scaling up of production efficiency to supplement our food output. The objectives of the study are to estimate the technical efficiency and analyze the trend in total factor productivity of maize production.

Method: This study focuses on forty-eight (48) cities in six (6) selected regions of Ghana: Northern, Upper East, Upper West, Central, Eastern, and Volta. Secondary data on maize production was obtained from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture from the 2010/11 to 2020/21 cropping seasons. Environmental variables (amount of rainfall and temperature) were sourced from the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMA) from 2010/11 to 2020/21.

Results and Conclusion: The results displayed a fairly high level of TE, and environmental factors significantly influence production efficiency. The study revealed that the TE of maize cultivation was 0.752 and 0.853 for the first and third stages, respectively. From the findings, the efficiency scores attained after the adjustments to the input in the third stage of the DEA model were greater than those in the first stage. Also, the results indicated the eastern region had the highest TE scores, showed an increment in productivity, and serves as the finest region for maize cultivation. Overall, the technical performance of maize cultivation had shown an upward trend in productivity, and the eastern region recorded the highest efficiency performance and technological progress.

Implications of the Research: The research highlights the significance of the maize crop to the Ghanaian economy and how environmental factors impact farmers' production efficiency. It also emphasizes the benefits of resource use efficiency and its implied effects on the total factor productivity of maize cultivation. Policy suggestions include sustainable production practices primarily for farmers living in susceptible areas to enhance productivity and improve their food security status.

Originality/Value: The gap discovered in the examined literature was that there exists a substantial deficiency in the usage of the three-stage DEA Malmquist model for analyzing technical efficiency and limited studies on the estimation of the total factor productivity (TFP) changes, specifically focusing on maize farming. This paper adds to the body of the existing literature by utilizing a three-stage DEA model to evaluate the TE of maize production. This is entirely limited both in theory for annual crops and methodologically in the Ghanaian literature on efficiency studies.
Emmanuel AlorzukeRattanawadee SangmaleeRuj KasetsuwanWongchai Anupong

https://rgsa.emnuvens.com.br/rgsa/article/view/5138

Purpose: The loss of skilled workers is one of the negative effects of the high turnover rates that the hospitality sector is currently experiencing. Turnover intention refers to an employee's desire to relocate or quit their position. There are several organizational disruptions brought on by this staff turnover. The purpose of this study is to test a research model empirically by examining how job security, perceived organizational support, and transformational leadership affect the intention to leave a company.

Theoretical framework: This study employs the Social Exchange Theory, which posits that a balanced exchange occurs between two parties, with recipients typically responding positively when the giver provides something valuable. In line with this concept, the research aims to explore how factors such as job security, perceived organizational support, and transformational leadership influence individuals' inclination to remain in their current employment.

Method/design/approach: Quota sampling, which establishes a quota depending on the percentage of each hotel, is the sample method employed. Analysis employing Partial Least Squares was used in this study. In order to ensure that the computations are spread equally, the analysis's findings determine the proportion of the demographic conditions of each employee respondent at 4-star hotels. Consequently, a total of 176 respondents were gathered from the sampling, comprising 123 male and 53 female employees, with the majority falling between the 20–25 age range.

Results and conclusion: The findings suggest a positive association between the desire to leave a company and factors such as perceived organizational support, transformational leadership, and job security. Interestingly, the results indicate that enhancing job security could potentially decrease the inclination to leave. However, the study did not uncover significant effects of transformational leadership or perceived organizational support on turnover intention.

Research implications: Provide new references in theoretical studies, especially on turnover intention behavior, especially in the hospitality sector.

Originality/value: Establish a new measurement mechanism in an effort to reduce turnover intention using different antasedent variables.
Akhmad DarmawanFatmah Bagis

https://rgsa.emnuvens.com.br/rgsa/article/view/5462

Purpose: Evaluate the energy complementarity between hydro, wind, and solar resources, and size a wind system and a photovoltaic system to meet the same production of the CGH Caveiras, (Lages/SC).

Methods: Wind and solar systems were sized in order to meet the production of CGH Caveiras, from commercial models of equipment and considering data from 2017 to 2019. To assess complementary, data from the same period were obtained from the river monitoring station of ANA and the meteorological station of INMET.

Results and Conclusion: In order to meet the demand of CGH Caveiras, only 1 medium sized wind turbine or 915 photovoltaic modules of the chosen models for the study would be necessary, and both systems could be used to compensate for periods of low hydroelectric production. The complementarity was confirmed through Pearson coefficients, where -0.39 was obtained between hydro and wind, and -0.32 between hydro and solar. Temporal complementarity indices, in turn, indicate complementarity between hydro and solar (κhs = 0.778) and between hydro and wind (κhe = 0.611).

Research Implications: Both wind and solar resources exhibit complementarity with the hydro patterns of the study area, and either of the proposed systems, wind or photovoltaic solar, could be used in a hybrid manner with the existing hydroelectric system, especially during periods of droughts.

Originality/value: Considering the scarcity of energy complementarity studies in Santa Catarina, as well as the impact of climate change on the hydrological regime and hydroelectric power generation, research of this nature is essential for the region’s energy security.
Lauanne Oliveira PimentelJeane de Almeida do Rosário

https://rgsa.emnuvens.com.br/rgsa/article/view/5007

Objective: to evaluate nematofauna and AMF present in organic and conventional vine plantations.

Theoretical Framework: vines are widely cultivated around the world. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) associate with plants, providing an increase in nutrient absorption. Free-living soil nematodes participate in the trophic web, being important for its maintenance. These two organisms can be used as indicators of soil quality.

Materials and methods: Collection was carried out in the areas: organic vine cultivation, conventional vine cultivation and Caatinga. The following were evaluated: trophic groups of nematodes, number of glomerospores, percentage of mycorrhizal colonization.

Results: There was a significant difference between the areas regarding the amount of bacteriovorous, fungivorous and carnivorous nematodes. AMF spore density differed between areas, with the highest values observed in conventional vine planting.

Conclusions: conventional cultivation of vines negatively affects free-living nematodes; on the other hand, phytonematodes are favored by vine cultivation, regardless of the type of cultivation. AMF are affected by the type of cultivation, with greater production of glomerospores in conventional cultivation.

Implications of the research: this research finds that the biological conditions of the soil tend to be different between organically managed and conventionally managed crops, where the latter cause a reduction in the number of organisms, such as nematodes, on the other hand, organic management tends to improve edaphic conditions. Another issue is that not all soil organisms will be affected in the same way, so those that are more resilient tend to adapt to the new conditions imposed, as seen in the present work in relation to AMF.
Cledson Sandro Barros de SáMelquisedec de Sousa OliveiraAndreia AmarizTiciana Parente Aragão Luciana Freitas de Oliveira FrançaRicardo Kenji ShiosakiLeilyane Conceição de Souza CoelhoMaryluce Albuquerque da Silva Campos

https://rgsa.emnuvens.com.br/rgsa/article/view/4823

Purpose: The nexus between peacebuilding, conflict, and religion has been portrayed too often in a binary way where religion has been viewed either as a source of conflict or peacebuilding. This perception obscures the intricacy of the nexus showing that not much is understood about religion. This study sought to understand how religion interacts with human experience at the national and international levels to provide a detailed understanding of how it relates to peacebuilding and conflict in Africa.

Methods: A qualitative and interpretive approach is employed predicated on a critical literature review of documents from various sources.

Results and conclusions: It is revealed that religion should not be seen as an isolated or static entity, but viewed as a fluid system, dependent on historical and contextual variables. Experts, academics, and policymakers must be cautious not to give unjustified eminence to religion because it is not always a main factor in every conflict.

Originality/Value: For a long time conflict and peacebuilding in the continent has been not vigorously included the religious sector. Where the religious community has been involved it has generally been initiated at a country level by peacebuilding actors without much amplification at the continental level. This is one of the few studies if any that champions this matter and complement the African Union’s African Peacebuilding and Security Architecture.
Daniel Chigudu
