Abstract

This research had the aim to analyze the system of the urban home solid waste of Marau – RS, as well as the participation of the individual (provider) and other social actors involved in the process (in city government and service provider for collecting and disposal of urban, domestic garbage). The method used was research that investigated the individual participation (generation), their knowledge and attitudes on the process, the public power participation responsible by the management, and the company which collected the waste, this way a complete analysis of the system was conducted. To obtain the data a random sample of 390 urban home units in Marau – RS were researched, representing 4.2% of the universe (total). To collect the data, semi-structured questionnaires were used on the researched agents. This way the results were likely to demonstrate in general that the individual knows the generator system of selective collection, performs the separation of garbage, and are willing to work with PEVs and realize the importance that the collection be made separately. Accordingly, it is necessary to point to the importance of educational actions in the city and certain frustrations of the generators with the fact that garbage trucks collect mix dry with wet. It was also verified the discrepancy in perceptions between the generator and other agents on the method of selective collection, being questioned by the generator, even about its existence. Moreover, it was verified that higher levels of income and education are related to greater participation in waste separation.
